Care Moor Foundation Hosts First-Ever HBCU 5K Run in Chicago

The Care Moor Foundation made history on Sunday, September 21, 2025, by hosting its inaugural HBCU 5K Run at Cole Park on 85th and King Drive. The event drew a few hundred participants, creating an atmosphere of community, culture, and celebration.

Runners came from across Chicago and beyond, with proud representation from several of the nation’s top Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), including Howard University, Spelman College, Morehouse College, and Florida A&M University. The run also welcomed participants who did not attend HBCUs but wanted to show their support for the cause and the mission of uplifting Black excellence.

Following the 5K, participants gathered for a celebratory brunch, sharing food, conversation, and stories that highlighted the importance of HBCUs in shaping leaders and strengthening communities.

The successful turnout marked a strong beginning for what the foundation hopes will become an annual tradition in Chicago, spotlighting both health and heritage while bringing together students, alumni, and supporters from all walks of life.
